Apigee provides comprehensive API management capabilities that expedite the scalable delivery of applications on the powerful Pivotal Cloud Foundry platform. Apigee enables API providers to design, secure, deploy, monitor, and scale their APIs. Apigee sits in-line with runtime API traffic and enforces a set of out-of-the-box API policies, including key validation, quota management, transformation, authorization, and access control. API providers use the customizable portal to enable developers to consume APIs easily and securely, and to measure their performance and usage.
Mitigate Risk in Application Modernization
Apigee insulates an application modernization project with an API facade that decouples front end apps from the backend apps being modernized with Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
Secure Microservice-Based Application Development
Apigee enables you to deploy consistent security policies, such as authorization and spike arrest, across all microservices and applications.
Increase Backend Application Consumption
Publish your backend application APIs to a fully configurable developer portal to enable app developers to easily consume these APIs.
Apigee is the leading API Management platform that enables the world's largest organizations to drive their digital business, including 33 percent of the Fortune 100, four of the top five Global 2000 retail companies, and five of the top 10 global telecommunications companies. Apigee customers include global enterprises such as Walgreens, Burberry, Morningstar, and First Data.
Option to broker a connection to a service running external to Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
Plan migrations. Developers can resize deployments by changing their service plans as needed and resource requirements change.
“Applications expose APIs, and the APIs need to be managed. This integration is exciting because it will make publishing native applications on Pivotal Cloud Foundry with APIs that are secure, managed and scalable extremely easy.”
Ed Anuff, Vice President of Strategy, Apigee
Edge Enterprise as a Route Service. Apigee API Management can be deployed as a route service on Pivotal Cloud Foundry, thereby intercepting requests at the edge of Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Operators set up global policies on Apigee (on-premises or in the cloud) taking advantage of its comprehensive set of API management features. By simply binding their app to that route service, all API call coming into Pivotal Cloud Foundry are intercepted by Apigee and policies enforced.
Apigee Microgateway as a Buildpack Component. In some use cases, like microservices, you might want to incorporate API management right into your container rather than send all API calls through a central API gateway. To enable that, Apigee offers Microgateway that enforces API policies close to the backend application or microservice. Apigee Microgateway is connected to the Apigee Enterprise (on premises or cloud) and gets its policies from the central management platform. Apigee Microgateway processes API requests locally and asynchronously sends API metadata to Apigee Management for analytics dashboards.
Edge Enterprise fully manageable by Cloud Foundry BOSH. This option eases the installation and ongoing operational challenges of managing Apigee API Management in a separate environment from Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Customers get the automation advantages inherent to BOSH managed services, namely scaling, health and full lifecycle management capabilities such as live upgrades and patching, all from within Pivotal Cloud Foundry. In addition, the communications between Apigee and the applications all stay within the Pivotal Cloud Foundry network environment.
