Edge Enterprise as a Route Service. Apigee API Management can be deployed as a route service on Pivotal Cloud Foundry, thereby intercepting requests at the edge of Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Operators set up global policies on Apigee (on-premises or in the cloud) taking advantage of its comprehensive set of API management features. By simply binding their app to that route service, all API call coming into Pivotal Cloud Foundry are intercepted by Apigee and policies enforced.
Apigee Microgateway as a Buildpack Component. In some use cases, like microservices, you might want to incorporate API management right into your container rather than send all API calls through a central API gateway. To enable that, Apigee offers Microgateway that enforces API policies close to the backend application or microservice. Apigee Microgateway is connected to the Apigee Enterprise (on premises or cloud) and gets its policies from the central management platform. Apigee Microgateway processes API requests locally and asynchronously sends API metadata to Apigee Management for analytics dashboards.
Edge Enterprise fully manageable by Cloud Foundry BOSH. This option eases the installation and ongoing operational challenges of managing Apigee API Management in a separate environment from Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Customers get the automation advantages inherent to BOSH managed services, namely scaling, health and full lifecycle management capabilities such as live upgrades and patching, all from within Pivotal Cloud Foundry. In addition, the communications between Apigee and the applications all stay within the Pivotal Cloud Foundry network environment.
