Overview

This course provides students with the concepts needed to work with and deploy applications on Cloud Foundry. Students will gain familiarity in Cloud Foundry concepts (applications, buildpacks, manifests, organizations, spaces, users, roles, domains, routes, services), how to push applications to Cloud Foundry (various languages), services, user provided services, manifests, YAML, environment variables, autoconfiguration, logging and loggregator.


Second Course:

Pivotal Cloud Foundry Immersion

Overview

Pivotal Cloud Foundry Immersion is an intensive, 3-day course designed for students with a solid working understanding of Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF). Students will experience a broad set of features encompassing operator, developer and architect perspectives. This enables the understanding of the breadth of possibilities unleashed through agile approaches on a dynamic platform.

The course will explore the value of standardizing on a cloud-native platform for building and running software applications. Through hands-on labs, students will also learn the major components of the PCF architecture and how to install, configure, extend and use the platform.

This course is designed to provide an introduction to students new to GemFire. As a 1 day course, students will gain a high level overview of features found in GemFire. This introduction will serve as a foundation for further courses that are offered for administrator, developers and architects using GemFire. Some basic high level lab exercises are also offered to enhance the learning experience.


Second Course:

GemFire Administration

Overview

This course is designed to provide training in the installation, configuration and management of GemFire. Students will learn how to define configurations based on desired topologies and region requirements, as well as how to manage a running GemFire cluster. This course will provide hands-on experience with defining different cluster configurations, stopping and starting members, troubleshooting problems and more. This three day course is designed to provide the necessary combination of technical concepts and hands-on experience to enable administrators to effectively manage their deployments. Following this course, students will have the opportunity to test for certification.


Certification:

GemFire Administrator Certification

The GemFire Administrator Certification Exam is designed to test and validate your proficiency with GemFire Administration in the following areas:

  • GemFire topology options
  • Detailed installation and configuration processes
  • Disk Stores use and configuration
  • Monitoring and managing GemFire clusters
  • Troubleshooting methodologies

This course is designed to provide an introduction to students new to Pivotal Greenplum. As a one day course, students will gain a high level overview of features found in Pivotal Greenplum. Architecture Administration and Implementation

Overview

This course will provide the information needed to install, Configure and manage Pivotal Greenplum. Students are introduced to:

  • Pivotal Greenplum environment, consisting of Pivotal Greenplum and supported systems.
  • Fundamental concepts on data warehousing, business intelligence and how Greenplum helps to solve business problems in managing and analyzing Big Data.

Students will install, configure and manage Pivotal Greenplum by evaluating logical models and business requirements to determine the best physical design for Pivotal Greenplum.

The GemFire Developer Certification Exam is designed to test and validate your proficiency with GemFire Development in the following areas:

Second Course:

Pivotal Cloud Foundry Developer

Overview

This course provides students with the concepts and experience needed to work with and deploy applications–typically written in Java/Spring-on Cloud Foundry. Students will gain familiarity in Cloud Foundry concepts (applications, buildpacks, manifests, organizations, spaces, users, roles, domains, routes, services), how to push applications to Cloud Foundry (various languages), services, user provided services, manifests, YAML, environment variables, autoconfiguration, logging and loggregator, VCAP_SERVICES and VCAP_APPLICATION. The course will provide hands on experience using Pivotal Web Services, the local command line interface, and the Eclipse Cloud Foundry plugin. Students will gain experience in pushing apps to Cloud Foundry, accessing logs, scaling. Students will learn about marketplace services and will gain experience with one or more examples. Students will explore topics directly related to Spring application development in the cloud, such as Auto-configuration and Spring Cloud.

Enterprise Integration Specialist Certification

The Enterprise Integration Specialist Certification is designed for architects and developers who have completed either the Enterprise Integration with Spring or the Enterprise Spring class and successfully passed the Pivotal Certified Enterprise Integration Specialist exam. Passing the exam demonstrates your understanding of enterprise application integration with Spring and validates your familiarity with:

  • Creating concurrent applications and scheduling tasks using Spring
  • Using Serialization and Remoting to call remote applications

Data Science in Practice

Overview

This course is designed to give the student hands-on experience with the Pivotal products related to performing Pivotal Data Science projects. Given the diverse and varying nature of customer implementations this course will focus on the main aspects of a Data Science project within Pivotal: Pivotal Greenplum, pSQL, MADlib, GPText, PivotalHD, PivotalR, pyMADlib with extra units covering Alpine Chorus and Visualization. Students are introduced to the need for big, fast data and its role in modern business applications; The course will provide hands on experience using Pivotal Greenplum, pSQL, MADlib, GPText, Apache Hadoop, Pivotal HD, Alpine Chorus, PivotalR, PL/R, pyMADlib, PL/Python and several visualization tools such as Gephi, D3 and Tableau. This course will introduce and use, but does not include extensive training on, pSQL, R, Python. Further, this course will provide attendees with an opportunity to explore several intense Data Science projects that have been converted into extensive Data Science exercises. This course does not teach Installation, Configuration and Management of any of the products.
